Fai l'uomo!
Fai l'uomo! is the Italian expression for Man up!, where the verb “fai, fare” used in this sentence means to do or to make.
In this project I explore the roles that the idea of masculinity creates. Men are always asked to wear roles that someone else or even themselves create in order to match the expectation that society has set for them. Being strong, successful, earning money, supporting a family, these are only a few of the most common stereotypes that came to my mind when starting to reflect on the idea of masculinity. The aim of Fai l'uomo! project, is to convey that this idea of being a man actually doesn’t exist. It’s a construction. What society expects to see in men and what a man has to create for himself.
The project has been showcased in Shanghai and in Hefei, China, within the collective exhibition ‘Seeing Him’ 镜中见他 .

‘Seeing Him’ 镜中见他
is a mixed media exhibition
in which eight female artists set out on a journey to deconstruct, redefine and challenge socially created traits associated
with the word masculinity.
Rather than accepting it as an innate, passive condition, the contributing artists explore manhood beyond the binary, contemplating
its role and manifestation in the contemporary society,
unveiling and welcoming
its fragility and vulnerability.

This three-week exhibition from August 21st to September 12th, 2021, took place at the Museum of Creative Minds in the Power Station of Art area in Shanghai. Alongside with showcasing the works from the eight artists, the event also included artists talks, workshops, discussion and panel events on fatherhood, transgender related topics, communication and education.
